Starting June 1, 2009, a U.S. law will require Canadians to present a valid passport to enter the United States by water or land. U.S. law already requires Canadians to present a valid passport to enter the U.S. by air. Apply for your passport today to ensure you have it when you need it. Remember, the passport is the recommended travel and identification document for all Canadian travellers.
To obtain a Canadian passport you will need:
- The application form completed and signed.
- Two identical passport photos taken within the last 12 months (one photo certified by the guarantor).
- Original proof of Canadian citizenship (no copies or notarized copies.)
- Documents to support identity.
- Any Canadian passport or travel documents issued to you within the last five years.
- The fee ($22.00CDN under 3 years of age, $37.00CDN 3 years to 15 years of age, $87.00CDN 16 years of age or older)
Guarantor Information (An eligible guarantor must:)
- Be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older;
- Hold a five-year Canadian passport that is valid or has been expired for no more than one year;
- Have been 16 years of age or older when they applied for their own passport; and
- Have known the applicant personally for at least two years.
